In September 2009 then Head Coach, Kevin Dunne initiated a new and important measurement of progress for all club swimmers. It involves a series of regular time trials which can be used to record progress of swimmers in a number of areas.
Whilst forming only a part of the Head Coaches' criteria for the progress of swimmers from one squad to another and their placement in the lane structure of training sessions, these time trials will be a sigificant a visible record and Kevin will use the results to develop more individual training targets for swimmers.
Reef Squad will take part in a monthly 200m time trial. The current target for consideration for promotion to Makos is a 200m time of 4:19.60s. Once this target is achieved Kevin will assess a swimmer overall skills, including stroke, starts, turns, effort and attendance and a willingness to compete at club level.
Makos will take part in a Quaterly 15 minute time trial, in which swimmers will be times and observed during a non-stop 15 minute swim. Overall distance covered and the distribution of 100m splits will provide Kevin with useful measurements which can be used for tailored traing targets for swimmers.
Great Whites and Masters will take part in a 30minute Time trial along similar lines as Makos. Results of each time trial will be published here for all swimmers to see how they have done and, more importantly, how they are progressing compared to their peers. Check out the latest timetrial results on the right.
